A much more pleasant morning than last week with a very strong turnout for both the Mens and Ladies teams. There was also a number of club members and friends who showed up with lots of enthusiasm (and cakes!) which we were very grateful for – especially those who helped to marshal.
This was the first race held at Warrington Victoria Park for a number of years and credit to Warrington RR who hosted the event. The course was a rather flat and not too boggy 5.15 miles which meant it was a good introduction for those new to XC as well as those able to benefit from the speedy straights.
All in all a great addition to the league with strong scores for both teams.

Seven guys and six lady runners defied the horrendous weather forecast of 60mph winds, along with added rain, and went to run the 4.91 miles cross country at Arrowe Park.
We had a couple of rain squalls, one just before the race and one as we were packing up to leave.
Mince pies were provided by Geoff Hand who came along to support us, stand in the cold and cheer us on despite his broken collar bone. It was tough running but standing still must have been worse. Thanks Geoff from us all.
We can’t understand why Claire Ellison was not covered in mud like the rest of us.
I nearly did not start as the spikes on my left shoe fell off as I jogged over to the start, so I had to run back to my kit and change to fell shoes which I had luckily brought as an alternative.
I got to the start line as the last runner ran off but not wanting to be accused of cheating, I ran past the start and turned so I crossed the start line 10 minutes behind the last runner, and set off to catch people.
I think I need to put in a late request to Santa for some new spikes!

Congrats to all team members who ran the Beacon Park XC race at the weekend, on the excellent new 4.7 mile route around the old golf course. Unlike last year, conditions were warm and dry (despite what the photo may suggest). It was a good team turn out for Striders, with 8 men and 4 women.
