A bakers dozen of runners from Spectrum and Halifax Harriers braved the wilds of West Yorkshire today at the Stoodley Pike Social run, an inter-club event comprising 8 miles of hilly but gorgeous countryside.
At the end of the run, back to my place where we consumed copious amounts of Samosas, Potato Salad, Ginger cookies and Tea.
Some of you may have already seen via Facebook that Allan Bird has arranged a Spectrum pacer event at Warrington parkrun on 26th October. We do realise that this will be the same date at the monthly ‘awayday’ parkrun, but are reluctant to cancel unless it cannot be avoided.
Thanks to those who have already offered to help, we have 10 timing slots filled now, but we do need another 10 for times from 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, 34-37 minutes incl. and 39 minutes. If you can help please email Allan Bird (pacer@spectrumstriders.org.uk) asap! It will be a good opportunity to promote the club to local runners if we can.
Another enjoyable run/walk incorporating a bit of history with Halifax Harriers friends among beautiful scenery near Mytholmroyd. Even the short sharp shower didn’t dampen spirits!

Spectrum Striders and Halifax Harriers met up for a challenging, hilly and muddy walk/jog/run led by yours truly. Some beautiful scenery and vista views, and with a sighting of the local fauna to boot!
For those of you who couldn’t make it, some of the awards highlights were…
2 brand new overall Champion of Champions – both are new members from our Senior section who have thrown themselves fully into Spectrum life and deserve their awards. Congratulations to Lewis Taylor and Kate Grimoldby
Our Special Award for contribution to the club went to Andy Garnett, who has given so much time, effort and knowledge to Spectrum over the last 40 years and when he does move away, we will miss his presence hugely.
The Endurance Award was given to Terry Coles who is an inspiration to us all still taking part in club events and running so well into his 80s
Not only did Karon Forster received the club’s Lifetime Achievement award (and we’d be here all day listing her club records and trophy wins) but she also picked up most improved female runner for 2023, which is nothing short of remarkable.
And we all looked fabulous in our new t-shirts paid for by the club to celebrate participating in the club’s 40th year events.
