Starting from Thursday 19-Nov-2015, we will be doing the Muster each week until Christmas, except for 3-Dec (also Curry Night) when it will be mile reps. See below for the schedule.
There was a long discussion at the AGM on 12-Nov-2015 about Thursday night training. One view was that the Thursday Muster was being "diluted" by the other sessions on offer. It was generally accepted that the Muster only works if there are a decent number of runners talking part.
David Redpath volunteered to come up with a trial Thursday training schedule until Christmas. Please give feedback so we can review the sessions.
There was some debate at the AGM about the mile reps. We are going do this on Thursday 3-Dec. It's not a traditional muster. Please feedback if you wish this to continue as a Thursday session.
Some members may not know how the Muster is supposed to work. Here's what you do...
All muster runs are based on those at the front RUNNING to the back runner when they reach a muster point so every runner is stretched. Between each set of muster points runners may choose to enhance sections e.g. doing fartlek (ask your coach) or perhaps running a section flat out and using the next section to recover.
This means the people at the front (potentially the quicker runners) get to run further. The quicker runners should not stand and wait for the back runners to arrive. If this happens the quickest are only running the same distance as the slower runners and having several rests which the back runners won’t get!
It's important that we all try to stick to this, otherwise the Muster won't work. Please give it a try.

For routes please see Striders’ website – click here.
All runners do the first two muster points
From the lake three groups, red, yellow and blue do as many laps or part laps of the Albert (mustering within each group) aiming to finish up at the lake again at 7:50.
All runners then run as a large group back together, mustering at the lakeside of the bouncy Bridge and just before the underpass to the school.
All runners run together and muster at the bouncy bridge. The yellow group then run the Michael counter clockwise (mustering if necessary) to get as far round the route as possible, until they meet the red group running the route in the traditional clockwise direction.
Both groups then return towards Science Park mustering at the traditional points, meeting the blue group along the way.
All return to the school mustering at the traditional muster points (two postboxes, Lake or big pond, bouncy bridge, underpass to the school).
This is the only time groups will particularly separate from the school. The Poplars traditional route approximately 7 miles, normally run at a pace to suit red and yellow groups.
The Janet is best suited to blue group members although this does no exclude anyone else and will be useful for runners wishing to take it a little easier prior to a Saturday race or a Sunday half. This is a muster run of approximate 5 miles with several muster points.
