Wednesday 3-Apr-2013 at 7pm:  Chester Spring 5 (at Upton, nr Chester)

Anne Fortune set a new Club LV60 record, beating Steph Charman's time of 45:31 set on 18-Jul-2012 at the Sefton Park 5 by 4 min 12 sec.

Also, Colin Martin broke the long-standing Club MV55 record by 1 sec!  It was set by Alan Peers with a time of 29:01 at Haigh Hall on 19-Jul-1995.

May Day Bank Holiday Monday 6-May-2013 at 11:30am:  Terry Nortley Relay (in Radcliffe)

This relay event was held in Close Park in Radcliffe.  The event was a 4 x 2 mile relay with 4 runners each running a leg consisting of two chip-timed 1 mile laps of the park, mainly in tarmac paths.  

Anne & Ian ran as a 2-person team, doing 2 legs each in a total time of 61:46, running as the "Pudgitts".  They were 25th out of 37 teams, with the last team finishing in 72:18.

Colin Martin's time was a new Club MV55 record, beating Alan Peers' time which had stood for 13 years.  Colin beat the time of 18:25 set by Alan at Christleton on 12-May-2000 by 1 min 4 sec.

Sunday 19-May-2013 at 10:30am:  Windermere Marathon

Race report from Adam Leadbetter:

"This is a brilliantly low-key and well organised event, which runs on the roads around Windermere, starting and finishing at Brathay Hall just south-west of Ambleside.

After spending Friday night listening to torrential rain on the outside of our tent, and then most of Saturday trying to find things to do on a wet day in the Lakes with a toddler, it was something of a relief to find an overcast but dry start to Sunday.

As we arrived at the start, the atmosphere was beginning to build as the brave/mad 10-in-10 runners were just heading off on the final day of their week-and-a-half of consecutive marathons around the lake.

Once the briefing was over, the runners marched down to the start behind a samba band, but before I could even see the line I heard the gun and the race was on.  Out on the course the support was superb as we passed through the various villages on the route.  It seemed to me like the whole population of Hawkshead had appeared on the streets to cheer us on.

In the end my legs just weren't there on the day, and I was initially disappointed with my time.  But sat in the car on the way home I was pleased to have been there and finished this great event again, and am happy with my placing.  Roll on July and the Lakeland Trails marathon and another lap of a lake – this time Coniston."

Friday 21-Jun-2013 at 7:15pm:  Tattenhall Tough Team Race

This is a multi-terrain race of about 9 miles for teams of 3 runners, over road & trail.  The race is tough (described on the race web site as "gruelling") and includes the famous climb up a very steep narrow gauge disused railway!

Rather than a relay, the idea is that the members of a team stay together.  The team's time is taken when the 3rd runner crosses the line.

We had one complete team and one other solo Club member taking part.

First team:  56:55  Chester Tri

10th - Striders mixed team:  Sue Buck, Heather Garland & Julian Spencer, 87:58

Incomplete team:  Rob McHarry, 84:14

Last team:  95:51

There were 48 complete teams and 2 incomplete.
