The organisers made a last minute change to the course. The official course measurers, the "Association of UK Course Measurers", have withdrawn the course measurement certificate. Many runners think (based on GPS watches) that the course was approximately ½ mile short although the organisers deny this.

Saturday 12-May-2012: Sandstone Trail Challenge
This is not a race but is a LDWA (Long Distance Walkers Association) end-to-end challenge walk which also supports runners. It follows the waymarked Sandstone Trail route from Whitchurch to Frodsham Community Centre with minor variations. The event is organised by Helsby RC.
The route is about 33 miles and 3700ft climb. For more information, visit the event web site.

Well done Debbie Read who won the F45 class even though she has recently become a F55!
Debbie also set a new Club FV55 10k record, beating Janet Redpath's record of 50:15 set in the same race on 28-Jun-2007 by 2min 39sec.
Last, but not least, well done to Colin Martin who was first MV50 (out of 48 runners!).

Sunday 24-Jun-2012 at 11am: Moel-y-Gamelin fell race (nr. Llangollen, 9½ miles, 2379ft climb, category BM)
Race reportsFrom Neville Griffiths:
"Despite the black clouds and heavy rain showers in Warrington, an intrepid group of Striders set off for the Horseshoe Pass (Llangollen) to do the Moel-y-Gamelin race. At 10 miles and over 2000ft of climb it wasn’t an easy race and none of us had done it before, so we didn’t know what to expect.
By the time the race started conditions had improved and were near perfect for running. The route was well marked and followed the ridge line running out towards Corwen.
There were five climbs along the ridge and then the route dropped off the ridge across the fell before turning and coming back along the lower slopes of the ridge. Then another long climb back up to Moel-y-Gamelin and then we could see the finish line, far below us, in front of the Ponderosa Café.
Striders did well in the race picking up three 1st prizes."

"Working nights on the Saturday night wasn't the ideal preparation for the 9.5 miles and 725 metres of climbing ahead but given how I fared I might do it more often.
I got my wife, Christine, to drive me to the start so I could grab a quick snooze but given her inability to follow simple Sat Nav instructions I felt it prudent to stay awake otherwise I could have found myself running up Ben Nevis instead of Moel-Y-Gamelin.
At the start, myself and Chris Millington stood shivering in our race vests watching others putting on hats, gloves and base layers wondering if we were a little under prepared but it was safe to say once we reached the top of the first hill we knew we had made a good decision. After a (not so) thorough check of our fell kit we were set on our way, with the family left to go and enjoy brekkie in the Ponderosa Cafe while we all slogged around the course.
The course consisted of three parts. Firstly we went over several hills before running through undulating moorland and then back over the hills to finish.
I set off feeling quite good despite the lack of sleep, and after a couple of hills settled in a short way behind Chris. Normally I would have Phil Daintith ahead of me and still being a fell race novice I wondered if I had gone off too quick given the fact we'd be running for about an hour and a half.
Once we got onto the flatter part of the course Chris started to pull away from me a bit as he seemed to enjoy the more Cross Country aspect to the
race but I still felt good and just had the last hills to negotiate.
After about 70 minutes we reached Moel-Y-Gamelin for a second time and what I thought was a dangerously steep descent the first time round now turned into a hellish climb. I'm sure this finished a few off but once over it I kicked on again, passed a rather tired Chris (he used words to
that effect as I passed him) and after encouraging him to keep going I soon found myself looking down on the café and the finish.
I stormed down the final bit which was the best bit of the course, hit the brakes, turned left and through the finish funnel to the utter amazement of my family and Chris' wife Andrea who expected to see Chris bounding down the hill first at which point they all got rather concerned to his whereabouts.
I soon reassured them that he was OK and not far behind and sure enough he appeared over the hill and finished with a flourish to an awaiting bottle of wine for his achievement of first over 40 vet.
Well done to all who took part and hopefully this challenging race can be kept on the Championship calendar again next year. For me it was a great experience and really enjoyable (much better than road running) and it was off home and back to bed."These results were copied from a handwritten results sheet.
